Most people have a passion for the outdoors in one form or another. It may be camping, birdwatching, gardening, hunting or fishing, hiking, golf, even scuba diving….the list goes on and on. So what is it that lures us to these activities that we hold so dear to our hearts? More importantly, what keeps us coming back? The answer: it’s all about the experience.
Countless wondrous events transpire that naturally make us thirst for more. Perhaps it’s the way the colors of a sunset seem to dance off the surface of the water, the sweet sound of a songbird in the trees, the sense of gratification when you smell fresh flowers, fruits, and vegetables that you planted with your own hands. To others it may be the sound of the wind blowing through the pines, the sweet fragrance of a fresh summer rain, harvesting a big game animal, bird, or fish. The soothing gurgle of a stream or creek, the freedom of an eagle soaring high above, how the distant call of the loon and the smell of a campfire can seem to make the whole world fade away.
The point is that we all experience these incredible moments where time seems to stand still. It’s just you, your surroundings, and the awareness that in your heart you are instinctively giving thanks to something or someone – a Creator!
The Apostle Paul tells us in the Bible that, “Since the creation of the world, God’s invisible qualities: His eternal powers and divine nature have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that man is without excuse” (Romans 1:20). What does this mean? How does this relate to mankind and our love for nature and the majesty that is displayed around us? Paul is conveying that ever since God created the world, through the greatness of His creation He has given us all the ability to UNDERSTAND who He is.
Each one of us at some point in time will experience death. We will enter into eternity and be standing before the one Holy and Almighty God. At that time, we will each have to give an account for how we lived our lives and whether we gave God the proper acknowledgment that He deserves. When that time comes, according to the above verse, we won’t have any excuses if we chose not to give God the glory for all of His wonders.
Whether you are a follower of Jesus Christ or not, the connection we all share is the love of nature and the creatures that inhabit it. The only difference is that some acknowledge God as the perfect creator and some don’t. We as founders of ScentFree Outdoors have a tremendous passion for the outdoors just like you. By grace and grace alone, we have been given the awesome privilege of sharing what God has done in our lives so that others may come to know Him personally. Once a person makes that transition, the mentioned moments that we ALL have come to appreciate seem to be that much sweeter.
